Riviera is a census-designated area and is an unincorporated community in Kleberg County. It’s also located 15 miles south of Kingsville on US Route 77, which will eventually become part of I-69E). The town was founded in 1906 by Theodore Frederick Koch, who was a land promoter during that time. He purchased land from the King Ranch so he could sell it to landseekers. And from there, he built a townsite along the St. Louis, Brownsville, and Mexico Railway that he named after the French Riviera.
Koch ran a train from Chicago to Riviera twice a month, which was done in an attempt to bring more people into the area. While it did grow in the first few years, a drought hit the area in 1915 that was followed by a major hurricane. Once U.S. 77 was built, it helped the area’s economy to get back on its feet. Now, most of its economy depends on farming and is the last stop for about 60 miles to Raymondville going south. Angi has a list of a number of construction companies who work in Riviera. Several of them have high ratings and excellent reviews. There was also a major commercial construction project at the Talley Rd and Frio River Run.
