Three Rivers is a town in Live Oak County and has a population of over 1,00 people. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.5 miles — all of which is land. Its primary economic drivers consist of the following:
- Oil and gas exploration.
Because it’s a gateway to the Choke Canyon Reservoir, tourism in Three Rivers has also been increasing. The State Park offers a number of recreational activities (such as boating, fishing, and camping), but it’s also a great place for viewing wildlife. Many of its residents live in or near Three Rivers because of the large number of jobs that are needed at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which is located approximately 10 miles west of town on Highway 72.
There have been several recent development projects in the area, including a Valero refinery that was scheduled for completion in December 2020. Last year, there were plans to develop the Live Oak Crossing Business District, which is located north of Three Rivers at the intersections of I-37 and U. S. Highway 281. The town is also planning to start the first phase of a sidewalk development project, which started last January.
